HOW IT WORKS

BallotBox works according to the method and system of its patent, ensuring the anonymity of the voters and allowing them to verify that their vote was correctly counted.

BallotBox records both the voter’s participation and the content of their vote separately and without associating them with each other. Later, once the results of the vote have been published, the voter can verify that their vote was correctly counted through a secret code that only he or she knows.

BallotBox evaluates its performance based on the following 6 pillars, necessary to guarantee a comprehensive vote and which we have embedded in our system and in our processes with clients, voters, and other interested parties.

BallotBox protects its service from cyber-attacks. The information is encrypted at every stage of the process.

LEGITIMACY

What does it consist of?

  • Only validated voters can cast a vote.
  • Only one vote can be cast per validated voter.

How does BallotBox approach this?

  • Together with our clients, we validate voter identity and voter records.
  • Our system does not allow the same voter to cast more than one vote.

INTENTION

What does it consist of?

  • The vote is cast according to the voter’s intention.

How does BallotBox approach this?

  • We created an application equipped with a simple design so that voters can vote easily and quickly, confirming their preferences before casting their vote.

ANONYMITY

What does it consist of?

  • Only voters can know the vote they’ve cast.

¿How does BallotBox approach this?

  • Our system does not record any information that associates a vote with its voter.

NON-COERCIBILITY

What does it consist of?

  • The voter shouldn’t be exposed to the possibility of  being forced to vote against their will.

How does BallotBox approach this?

  • With our application, voters can vote where they want, when they want.

VERIFIABILITY

What does it consist of?

  • Voters can verify that their vote was counted correctly without the need to trust another person, the authorities, or the system.

How does BallotBox approach this?

  • Voters can verify that their vote was counted correctly by using the secret code that only he or she knows

SECURITY AND TRANSPARENCY

What does it consist of?

  • There is no alteration of electronic records or, if malicious persons, fraud, failure, or an error in computer systems do alter the electronic records, this is detected and reported in a timely manner, preventing any negative impact as the vote is declared void before the results are published.
  • Any interested party must receive convincing evidence of the integrity of the voting process; that is, that it was completed without compromising the criteria described by each of these pillars.

How does BallotBox approach this?

  • Our clients receive all the necessary reports, during and after a consultation, that account for any alteration of the electronic records. These reports are also available to voters, other interested parties, and audits.
  • The voter can report if, according to the verification of their vote, it wasn’t correctly counted.
